Artist Statement
Art is a meditation — a place where emotion, intuition, and experience converge.
It is an emotional whirlpool, a treasure hunt to be pursued but seldom attained.
The search itself is the reward.
Each discovery prepares me for the next moment of insight, carrying me into a new stage
of exploration and growth.
Art is both personal and inclusive — a reflection of my own experience, yet open to the viewer’s interpretation.
It becomes
a shared space where observation and emotion meet, and where
the pursuit continues.
About the Artist
I am a lifelong visual thinker, and I have always expressed myself through art. Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, I was surrounded by the natural beauty of the Columbia River and its tributaries—a landscape that instilled in me a deep appreciation for the rhythms and patterns of nature. That sense of place continues to inform my work today.
I earned my BA in Fine Art Printmaking from the University of Oregon in 1975. After graduating, I moved to Central Oregon and worked in construction, ranching, sign painting, and as studio artist. I designed and built my own house on a dream property, where I lived for ten years in Sisters, Oregon.
In 1987, I relocated to the San Francisco Bay Area, where I built a career in architectural design and construction. As a licensed General Contractor for 35 years, I designed and built homes throughout the region, integrating my artistic eye into every stage of the process.
My professional life has always balanced art and structure—drawing, sketching, and envisioning form and space. Since retiring in 2019, I have returned full-time to the studio, reconnecting with the creative impulses that first shaped my path.
I live in Orinda, California, in a home I designed and built, with my wife of 36 years. Surrounded by the landscapes that continue to inspire me, I now devote my days to exploring new artistic directions with a renewed sense of joy and purpose.
